Find Ancestors

Hoping somebody may be able to help me find the civil registration of my 2x Great grandma.

Family bible shows birth date as 20 August 1872 or 1873. Not easy to read.
Have Rose's marriage to Herbert Neal on 28 Dec 1887 in Marchington and her death in Polesworth on 16 Nov 1936. Memorial in Churchyard reads "aged 66" therefore birth date would have been about 1870 !!

I do know that civil registration wasn't compulsory until 1875 but it seems odd that her parents would have registered her older brother in 1870 and not her 2/3 years later.
Brother John William Sowter born 2 April 1870 according to bible. Found registration Qtr April 1870 in Uttoxeter (birthplace Draycott)

Other oddity is that Rose born Burton but all other siblings born Draycott.
Bible gives name as Rosehannah but other documents give her 2 separate names...but this shouldn't make any difference.

Parents were William Sowter and Ann Lewin both from Draycott

I really need to confirm her date of birth with a copy cert so any help would be appreciated

It may be that the parents didn't consider a daughter to be worth the expense of registering

How old did she say she was when she married?

This makes her birth 1872........and you have the rest, you say

Marriage cert shows her age as 16 which would make birth 1871 and "yes" have tried phonetic search but nothing
Took me weeks to find her death cert

I can't find a birth that fits with her age on the 1881 census. I've tried switching her first names round and still nothing.

Is it possible that this is her birth (I know the place is wrong but there cold have been boundary changes):-

She may well have lied when she married...........

As I said when I posted the census, it indicates that her birth was 1872, and I gave a possible reason for her birth not being registered

Have you got any pictures of her? as a tree on Ancestry has.

I will have another search and see if I can find any registrations as "Suter"

I did consider that she was born out of wedlock and that she was registered as Lewin but as 2nd child not really as possibility

Will take your suggestion on board Reggie could certainly be right.

Have got a picture of her from a distant cousin in Aus, thanks for letting me know its on ancestry.
