Rose, can you give us any further details about your william?

Won't hurt for us to have a dig around.

Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying. In the 1841Census there is a William Hodgkiss, 31, Sarah, 29, Mary, 6, Sarah, 4,and William, 1, but in the 1851 Census in Bilston, Wolverhampton area there is Sarah 39, Mary Ann 16,Sarah 14, Elizabeth 3 and Henry 2. Neither William are there so was wondering what had happened to both of them.

My Mary Ann Hodgkiss was born abt 1835 and married a Stephen Jones, born abt 1833, before emigrating to NZ on the Hereford in 1879 with their children, Clara, Mary Ann and George.

Regards
Rose

Rose - the Williams are missing off the 1851 census, Sarah is noted as widow then. (So is her 16 year old daughter!!) Should you be looking for deaths 1841-1851?

If Henry is aged 2 then that should narrow down the search further for William Senior. There is a Henry born Sep Qtr 1849 and Dec Qtr 1850 in the right RD but 1850 would be too late to make him 2 in early 1851 at census.

There are William deaths Dec Qtr 1848 and Sep Qtr 1850 so either death possible re birth 1849 (Death late 1848, child born May to Sept 1849, and a bit out age wise at census)
