Looking for the death of James Hill
He was born 1847 Timperley Cheshire

Married Elizabeth Marsland Gresty 6th Dec 1869 St Martins Ashton on Mersey had 2 children Jonathon 1871 and Isabel 1873

Got the 1871 census living in Manchester


Elizabeth married again 4th June 1876 St Micheal Cofe Cheshire
1881 she is living in St Helens

So I'm thinking between 1873 and 1876

Could you put me straight on what people can find and what they can't

I see so many births / marriages not sure about deaths that people find that gives more info

Its broad spectrum . London baptisms and marriages to c1920 are online to view from the records kept at the London Metropolitan Achives.

Deaths after c1975 show the birth date as given by the informnat on the death cert.

There are many other Counties that have transcribed BMDS. and Family Search has some pre reg ie 1837, parish record indo.

Theres lots more too Im sure that i havent covered .

FreeBMD though is a free site and should be your first port of call for BMDS that are reg after Sept qtr 1837 when registration started.

BUT some births may not have been reg pre 1875 when it became an offence , with a fine, not to reg a birth within 6 weeks of the birth date

I am sure others can add to the list of whats available.

I can't see an Elizabeth Hill marriage in June 1876 - Altringham is I think the registration district for Ashton on Mersey

This would be the marriage but the other name involved for 'this' Elizabeth was NOT the one we are looking for !!!

This marriage is not a second marriage for Elizabeth Marsland Gresty !

Sorry For some reason I had it down as cheshire it's a long time since I did this one just trying to tie loose ends up and my notes are in Wales and I'm in Manchester

as James was a carter I wonder if he died away from home. There are one or 2 of about the right age

been trying to find them in 1881 - they are under the surname Rylance rather than Roylance
