Does anybody know if there was a censors in Ireland for 1881 and if there was does anyone have access to it to look for George Sanderson please.

1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 Irish Census Destroyed by Government






Unfortunately for genealogists, the Irish census records for 1861 and 1871 were destroyed by order of the government shortly after the statistical information for each was gathered. The government finally realized the value of keeping census returns, but then ordered the destruction of the 1881 and 1891 census during World War I. Possible suggested causes range from lack of space to using the pulp to alleviate a paper shortage.

Regardless of the reason, this sanctioned destruction was very complete. The only remnants are transcriptions from Enniscorthy parish, County Wexford (1861) where only the Catholic families’ entries were transcribed, and Drumcondra and Loghrackan, County Meath (1871). Both sets are held in the National Library of Ireland (NLI) in Dublin.
