Can anyone help please?
The 1841 Census shows Richard Board (b1770) married to Ann Board (b1780) living at Kale St, Batcombe, Shepton Mallet, Somerset with their two children Charles (b1826) and Sarah (b 1821)
I need to find the marriage details for Richard/Ann to find their parents
Have tried FreeBMD etc., but can't trace any marriage info'
Sometimes the surname is spelt Bord
Anyone any ideas?
Thank you
Nick Board

Registration didn't start till 1837 so marriage will not be on Freebmd.
You need parish records. Have you tried familysearch (just google)?

Thank you everyone for your help . Richard Board/Ann Hodges married 15 Nov 1802 looks like the one I'm after
Do the Parish Records normally give details of parents etc.,or were those details introduced when the Marriage Certs came into being?
Regards, Nick

Andrew

Andrew Report 20 Jan 2013 18:55

Parish records at this time are often just one line entries which say Mr X married Miss Y. No other details recorded. After about 1812, new forms were introduced that have signatures and 2 witnesses. May also state if one party was from outside the parish.

Certs as we know them date from Sept 1837.

Thanks Andy
Does the same apply to Birth Certs?
Just wondering how I can go further back to find out who Richard Board's father would be?
