Hi there.

Yes, Smith is very common...

Penny, thank you for the marriage indexes. The marriage in 1955 to Miss Hall was the marriage to my Grandmother. I know that they were married for 22 (ish) years, so I'm guessing it could be any of those after the 1973 index.

These are a great help thank you. I know that he was still alive in 1965 as my Uncle (his son) recalls that he left the house when he and Miss Hall divorced in the mid-late 1970's...

He married Miss Hall in 1955. Shortly after in 1956 Martin Geoffrey (my father) was born.
In 1958 Andrew Leslie Smith was born and in 1964 Michael David Smith was born.

As far as I can gather, he and Miss Hall divorced between 1975-1979.

After the divorce, the three boys stayed with Miss Hall and they never saw/heard from their father again.

On the grapevine, Michael heard that his father had re-married and that he remained in Oxford(shire).

My father died in 2006 and didn't really speak about his dad. I've never met Andrew and have been told that he was in an accident and suffered brain damage, so it's unlikely he will be able to relay any information if I was ever to meet him and Michael has told me evetything I and he knows - which isn't a lot.

Michael is the only contact I have with my father's family now and this is why I'm desperate to meet my Grandfather before it's too late, if it isn't already.

Thanks :-)

Problem is, Smith is a common name even with the more unusual name of Geoffrey ( imagine if it was John or George!)

Can you give us a time frame of any sort?

when did he divorce for instance?
When was the last of his three children born and how long did he stay in their lives?

Hi there. I'm looking for my grandfather, Geoffrey William Smith.
I know very little about him and am desperate to get in touch with him.

I know that he was born in Curbridge, Oxfordshire in 1931 to Geoffrey Lloyd and Winifred Mary Smith and has a brother Michael.

He married Georgina Mary Hall in Witney and together they had three children, Martin, Andrew and Michael. He later divorced Gina and remarried (unkown spouse name).

As far as I know, he worked at British Leyland and never moved out of Oxford.

Please, if anybody has any information, please let me know, time is ticking away slowly...

Thank you

Kat
