Hi everyone. Please can anyone help me trace the death of Mary Fearnley, born c1833. The 1871 census shows her living in Waterloo, Elland near Halifax, Yorkshire with her husband Charles and children Susan, Dan, Tom, Sam and Brook. However, there is no sign of her in the 1881 census and Charles has at this time moved to Morley in Yorkshire and has remarried, his second wife being Sarah A Fearnley aged 52. I have searched in civil registration death records and also parish burial records with no success. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Carol

It looks as though Charles re-married in 1874 in Huddersfield to Sarah Ann Bray so Mary must have died between March 1871 and the September quarter of 1874 when Charles married.

Hi Astra, thank you for helping me, and so quickly too! I had found the marriage to Sarah Ann Bray in 1874 so its great that you think that's correct also. The death registration you found is a distinct possibility as the age at death tallies. I had been concentrating on registrations in Halifax or Dewsbury, based on the 2 addresses in 1871 and 1881.

Thank you so much for your help.

Reg. March Quarter 1872

FEARNLEY Mary 47 Halifax 9a 389

I wondered about that one as it is in the right area but that gives a birth date of 1825 which is why I discounted it.

Hi to both fellow researchers who replied to my request for help in tracing the death of Mary Fearnley. Each of the registrations agrees in part with facts I have discovered. The registration in Great Ouseburn agrees with the age she would have been at that time. The other registration is in the area in which she was living but the age does not tally. Which one to go for? I know when tracing a person through the censuses there is often a difference in the expected age recorded each decade. Could it be that the age at death has been given incorrectly? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your help.
