Hello Mike

Am not sure on the Richard John Foreman - i just need something to ensure i am on the right track, finding the birthdate as 1908 is a complete surprise as he wasnt supposed to have been born until 1910/1911.

I was wondering if a baptism notice might have anything which would help me.

And The Florence Caplin is my granny. We have never known whether her name is Florence Charlotte or Charlotte Florence. Also, she was admitted to the St Pancras workhouse school in Leavesden and was baptised there in 1900 as Florence Charlotte Caplin...on her wedding certificate her name is Florence Charlotte Caplin. I cannot find a Florence Charlotte Caplin born circa 1886 in the Mile End/St Pancras areas of London.

I know her parents were married in St Pancras in 1886 and that her mother went on to other marriages in both Limehouse and Mile End.

good thinking - i did wonder whether she may have been born out of wedlock.

I have her marriage certificate and lots of details of her parents but Florence is almost a mystery. She never celebrated a birthday or spoke of her childhood and she died when my mum (her daughter) was only 17.

Would love to fill some of the blanks in - especially for my mum who is now 90, as she adored her mum but knew so little about her. Mum didnt know that Florence spent time as a scholar at the workhouse school until i found it here.

So sad.

yep, got Florences fathers line - go back to 1700 and froze to death there - he was easy!!

Florence has been quite hard because she never spoke of her life, never celebrated birthdays, never had contact with her mother after the age of 12 - so much was missing.

The address you have given me for Florence and Thomas on the 1911 census would work well/ Thomas used to run a Thames barge, so living in Greenhithe would make sense as its righrt opposite Tilbury docks.
