Hi everyone
Does anyone have any information on a George Turner who was allegedly born in Fareham, Hampshire in 1876? He lived in Edmonton and was married to Ellen Turner (formerly Evenett).
He is on the 1901 census as Henry G Turner however and is down as William Turner on my nans birth certificate.
I can find no information for him before his marriage in 1899. Rumour in the family is that he actually came from overseas and landed in Liverpool but that is pure conjecture.
I have been trying to trace him ever since I began my tree and he is driving me mad! :-)
Thanks :-D

Have you thought of getting the marriage cert?

When was your grandmother born?

Why do you think the Henry G in 1901 is really William or vice versa?

Hiya
Thanks ever so much for your help. I have his marriage certificate to Ellen and his details from the census' so I know that it is either George Henry or Henry George. The William Henry comes from my grandmothers (his daughters) wedding certificate (if I remember correctly anyway :-) ) which I know is the right one.
My uncle seems to think his name was William, my other uncle thinks it was George.
I have traced the Evenetts but cannot get any further with George/Henry/William. I can find no record of him on the 1881 or 1891 census so I can only assume the "came on a boat from somewhere" rumour must be true. I would just love to know where from.
Thanks again for your help.
:-)
