Sorry for late reply Shirley. The parish record states Mary Drummond Wife of James Drummond so I must assume he was still alive plus as Gins printed above James got his Master's certificate in Sunderland in1850 after the death of Mary

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Marys death cert though will day if she was wife or widow of James so you will have another time frame for him

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 22:58

Mary's death cert wont help to find husband James after her death and there are too many possibilities up and down the country as I dont know when or where he died it would cost a small fortune

Gee

Gee Report 4 Feb 2013 22:28

You really need to buy some certs

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 22:06

Hi again Gins, No I do not have Mary's death cert but I know she died in 1850 at the same address that her son Joseph William and her daughter Mary Jane was born

Gee

Gee Report 4 Feb 2013 20:48

Have you got Mary' death cert?

drummo

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 18:03

Unfortunatley my James is not to be found on any census .He and his family moved from Whitby to Sunderland around 1826 he Married Mary Greenwell in 1845 lost a child James in 1846-1847 and Mary Jane 1850-1850 his wife died 1850 but a son Joseph William b-1848 was living with his grandmother in 1851 in Sunderland .Both joseph Williams father and grandfather (also a James ) were seaman and seemed to mis the census James senior appears on thge 1861 & 1861 census in Trafalgar Squ Sunderland
I have the certs of every one born marriied and died except death for James b-1819

Gee

Gee Report 4 Feb 2013 17:46

I just cant see two James' in Whitby on any census?

drummo

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 17:20

my james moved to and married in 1845 in Sunderland the other James married in 1842 ? to Ann Elder who is on the 1851 census still in Whitby just before her death a couple of years later .And you can then find their daughter Isabella living with her new mam and family in the 1861 census you have printed

Gee

Gee Report 4 Feb 2013 17:15

Yes I see that, but where are the two different James'?

Have you got Mary' death cert?

drummo

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 17:14

Looking at the 2 census you posted it looks like Ann Boult may have been married twice before to a Reed & a Jackson

Gee

Gee Report 4 Feb 2013 17:08

How do you know the difference between the alleged two James Drummond?

drummo

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 17:01

As this is taken at the port of Sunderland I believe it is my James and not the other James also born in 1819 in Whitby. It was taken shortly after the death of his wife Mary. Do you know of any way to get further info
Thanks Gins I did not have this
PS The marriage is the second marriage of thge other Whitby James he married Ann Elder who also died early in 1852 I think

Have you checked out this possible marriage?

hI Reggie sorry if I am misleading you but as previous posting failed to locate him in the census and this post was concentrating on a possible death.Having checked out the previous help I found no links so I thought to widen the possible death areas in the hope of finding him but again I am finding it difficult with no death age given pre 1866.I was wondering if any site gave an age of death pre 1866

Hi Reggie and Andrew I have posted before trying to locate James Drummond b-oct 1819 whitby without any luck He married in Sunderland 1845 but his wife Mary died Sunderland 1850.James is not on any census as he was a seaman he must have allways been at sea at census time There is however an 1851 census for a James Drummond born 1819 in Whitby and living in Whitby but he is not my James There is also a 1861 census for Whitby with a James Drummond at sea but again not my James This other James Drummond died in Whitby in 1863.
As I have not traced my James since the death of his wife I thgought I would try tracing backwards from his death but no death after 1866 which gives age at time of death matches up. I know when his son married in 1870 he was deceased

ErikaH Report 4 Feb 2013 14:42

That's rather a wide time-span.

You need to find him on census returns to narrow it down.

Was he married?

When was he born?

drummo

drummo Report 4 Feb 2013 14:20

HI All how can you find a death of a relation who died between 1850 and 1870.Before 1866 no age is given on freebmd at time of death which would help narrow down the search. As he was a seaman he could have died almost anywhere but there are too many possibility;s to send for all the certs.
