There is a Thomas Race (born 1857/1858 Bishop Auckland) on the 1891 census at Chester le Street reg district (FMP), can't see him on the 1901 census but then appears again at Chester le Street reg district in 1911, assuming it is the same one. In 1881 his occupation was a tailor. Could someone please take a look. Thank you. |

Marian - is he married on any of the census? Children? |

If this is the 1911 you refer to it's quite a change of occupation from tailor: |

Not that I'm aware of, in 1881 he is still at home with his parents at Newton Cap, Bishop Auckland. The 1911 census is a change of occupation so I'm thinking maybe its not him. |

The chap in the 1891 is the same as the one on the 1911 (wife's birthplace is a good clue). |

Thank you for your help, I think I may investigate deaths/buriels as my next step. |

Maybe he didn't die? |

This arrival record has him as a labourer, but have seen that used before when occupation was different: |

Marie, that has to be him and his occupation is tailor. His brother Joseph emigrated to Allegheny, Pennsylvania in 1884. How clever are you. Thank you. :-D |

On his arrival in USA in 1888 he's with Dinah, 24 and Anne,2. This looks like the marriage: |

Thank you all, I've found a tree on Ancestry for his brother and I've emailed the person who put it on but apparently he's on vacation and is going to contact me next week, so hoping he can fill in the gaps. I see Thomas is a widower in 1900 so maybe my contact to be will know when Dinah died. Thanks again. |
