there has been talk that my nan had another child out of wedlock. we have found the one who we knew about and have made successful contact. there now appears to be another child we have heard this through family members on my nans side. the information is vague i have his name which is geoffrey/jeffrey. my nans name was winifred ellen edwards born 1900 in aston birmingham. she seems to have stayed in that area the other child was born there in 1933.

The one you are looking for was born in 1933??

Have you tried FreeBMD for a birth Edwards mmn Edwards ?

Penny Report 5 Feb 2013 13:31

So what happened to him? Who is telling you, what are they telling you, and what sort o when are we looking at.

Did she eventually marry?

Whaty was the name of the other child?

teresa Report 5 Feb 2013 13:32

no 1933 child we have found. have tried free bmd already no luck.

brummiejan Report 5 Feb 2013 13:42

Aston came under Birmingham North/Birmingham south after 1924. There is no matching birth anywhere, though quite a few Edwards/Edwards births.
I think this is a fruitless quest to be honest.

teresa Report 5 Feb 2013 13:54

we dont know its difficult. the family member is quite old so information very limited she just says there was another child called geoffrey, that my nan used to take him to visit the family in aston in birmingham, no dates given.her other son was brian derek edwards born 1933. she married in 1935 to wilfred winter and he made her put the child brian into care. just trying to see if geoffrey did exist or was it family gossip. have looked at births on numerous sites but no luck. cannot think of what else to do.

greyghost Report 5 Feb 2013 14:05

There are Geoffrey Edwards' born in other parts of the country prior to 1935 - is it possible she was sent away to have Geoffrey. Or there are births in the right area with G as a second initial, perhaps known by his second name? All the births show on free bmd. But I think you have a nigh on impossible task unless you have an endless pot to buy certificates! An outside chance, tho' not very likely - a baptism in a local church????

teresa Report 5 Feb 2013 14:20

i think the same wanted to try everything possible though. not a problem finding brian so had to give it a go. thanks everyone.

Florence Report 5 Feb 2013 14:47

Just thought you should know !!

The marriage was 1938 Pershore worcestershire July quart .

not 1935 as above,?

The best thing to do Teresa, is to go back to your elderly relative and talk about it some more! they do get things mixed up sometimes, but it does not mean she is wrong! ask questions , such as where was Winifred living at the time when she was visiting them with Geoffory? how old was Geoffrey at the time she was visiting ? tell her to guess at age ! !if she has too. did she have Brian when she was visiting? all this can jog the memory!

I do not mean you have bombard the relative but i found talking about the past with them and showing interest , works!!
It did with me.

good luck, Flo
