Gertrude was born 1907 Aberdeen, she married John Fowler Ross Nov 25 1925 Aberdeen. John enlisted 6 moths later..Meanwhile Gertrude is sitting at home twiddling her thumbs, at least thats what we thought she was doing..In 1930 she gave birth to a son Jeffrey Christie Inglis Ross in Edinurgh and gave him away before her husband returned..Were not sure Jeffrey was his, he was stationed in China between 1928-1930 (he may have had some leave) but why give him away, there were no adoption papers to be found. Anyway when John Fowler Ross reurned. Were not sure what happened on his return but Gertrude left the marital home, we think to Canada.. How do we go about tracing her? I did come across 2 marriages for a Gertrude Ross but they werent her...Heeelp :-S :-S

Look for emigration info for her on FMP

As the son was 'given away', it has to be assumed that he was not her husband's child

Not seeing a divorce for her in the catalogue of the National Archives of Scotland. Unless she divorced elsewhere she would not have been free to remarry legally. Did her husband re-marry? Did he remain in Scotland?

Have you checked on Scotlandspeople for a possible death for her if you don't know for sure that she emigrated.

Could she have emigrated using her maiden surname please? There is this one but she gives Glasgow as her place of birth.

I did see a Gerturde Stephen (her maiden name) board a ship at Greenock in 1937 she was aged 31 and listed as housewife..Says her usual address was Union Street Aberdeen. Gertrude was born in Aberdeen and her parents were still there at the time of her father John Stephens death in 1958..Her fathers second wife died in 1937,(same year Gertie boarded the ship) perhaps if I knew if this was herstepmothers usual address at time of death I can confirm if this is the same Gertie. :-S

Jeffrey Inglis Ross born 1930 is the illigitimate son of Gertrude who she gave up to another family in Edinburgh. He became ill and the family wanted Gertie to have her son back (perhaps medical bills were expensive) but she apparently broke down in tears and said she couldnt take him back due to the fact her husband was returning home from the war and the child wasnt his.
