Find Ancestors

Hi, I am trying to find out the parents of James Downing, born approx 1799 alphington, werrington, devon. I know that James married Jane Harvey but i wondered if i get their marriage certificate willl it have their parents name on it ?

Unfortunately doesn't give any parents names?

No certs pre-1837

No record on parish registers of any names other than those of the couple marrying, and the witnesses, plus, of course, the Vicar

Have you tried to look for a baptism?

This is their marriage but it is before civil registration began so there won't be a certificate and most parish records do not name fathers:-
