Have you found the person in the 1891 census to see if he/she is with family? As Maddie says the most likely reason for the father's name to be left off a marriage certificate is because that person is illegitimate.

could well be illegitimate, hence not on the certificate.
Have you found his birth, that cert will name his father if known

Can anyone tell me please how to find out a persons father. I have a copy of their marriage certificate but for some reason the space for the fathers name has been left empty. The marriage certificate is from 1894.
