Mike * Report 8 Feb 2013 21:55

Poster already knows he married Harriet Roberts in 1903.

It's Alice's maiden name we need to find.

Not seeing an obvious marriage in Sheffield.
You might need to purchase one of the childrens birth certs ( Alice or Charles)

alviegal Report 8 Feb 2013 21:58

One of these births may be Arthur. It should have his mother's name on it.

Catherine Report 8 Feb 2013 21:58

The birth cert. of one of the children will give mother's maiden name.
Or maybe a baptism?

Stuart

Stuart Report 8 Feb 2013 22:05

Yes Mike, but having seen the 1911 census with 22 years married written on it, I was putting up the marriage which the poster presumably is referring to. The dates are obviously open to interpretation.
It also shows him as only Arthur, no second name, which may or may not help in finding a first marriage
