Find Ancestors

Thomas and Mary were my great grandparents, and married in 1863 at Ross in Herefordshire.
I have many details about Thomas - but very little about Mary, can anyone help?
I have heard mary was born in 1843 in Shelsey - but i cannot find proof of this - nor can I glean any details about her parents. Any information would be much appreciated.

In 1871 she lists her birthplace as Great Shelsley which is Shelsley Beauchamp, Do you have the marriage cert in 1863 which confirms it is the right couple? If not a child's birth cert would confirm her maiden name and whether the marriage is correct.

It seems a long way to go to marry in Ross in Herefordshire, when both came from Worcestershire

According to the census posted Thomas was about 21 years older than Mary. He being about 40 and she being about 19 at the time of their marriage. Perhaps they were forced into eloping?

Possibly - If Normie has got the marriage cert apologies but I just think the marriage is more likely to relate to this couple with a Mary Barnett born in Upton Bishop listed as the right age in 1861

I'am thinking the marriage in Ross is not the correct one.

Thomas Wilkes/Wilkes was in hartlebury on all census returns before and after his marriage to Mary.

Parents of Thomas?? were William 1781 and Elizabeth 1787

1841 he is with both parents
1851 with his mum Elizabeth
1861 with his sister Ann born 1828.masons labourer
1871 with wife Mary he was bricklayer
son John levi Wilks reg march 1865
Clara Alice 1867.

I too have come up with the same possible marriage details as you have. however, I am not 100% sure if this is the correct marriage. Still trying to work around this without wasting any £'s.
Shelsey in Worcestershire is the place of mary's birth - but that is as far as i can get at present.

Your first comments re 1881 - yes, this is the correct Thomas and Mary aged 59 and 38 respectively.
I know this is the correct family because Alice, aged 7 was my grandmother born in 1874, plus the fact that she had a sister called Clara some 6 years older.
I read your second comment (9.35 on 9/2/13) with interest. I too though Ross was a long way to go to be wed so to date I have not gone to the cost of a marriage certificate as I am not 100% certain it is the correct couple.
The message from today at 7.12 - I am afraid that this is not the correct couple for the reasons stated earlier.
The details you sent at at 13.13 and 16.44 today are extremely interesting and open up a new line of research for me. At first glance it looks very positive.

If Alice is your grandmother, what is the maiden name of her mother on her birth certificate?
