I am finding it difficult to trace the above relative. Her married Mary in 1842 approx but I am looking for William's parents.

William was born in Bethanl Green, London. His occupation was a blacksmith.

His marriage cert. should give you his father's name, do you have the cert.?

What was Mary's maiden name?

Thank you, His children were William 1842 and Henry 1844, also John a fishmonger, who married Emma Dent, and Ann, so not sure if this is the right one. I found my info on the 1861 census I believe.
Is there another as I cannot find his birth in the records.

What you need is the birth certificate of one of the children to see mother's maiden name. This will help find other records, or confirm if the marriage is correct.

I shall have to look through my records and see if I have made a mistake somewhere. On the 1851 census William lived at 7 Nelson Street, I shall have a look for it and check. Of course he may have changed his occupation in the 1861 census.

If you know that William was living at 7 Nelson Street in 1851 census, then the marriage I found must be the correct one as he gives the same address on the wedding certificate and he also gives his occupation as Smith.

To confirm you really need the birth certificate of one of the children to find out for sure mother's maiden name.

There were no such things as birth certificates in 1821.

Find the man's marriage record, and buy the cert for info about his father........assuming he knew him

It would appear that Catherine gave you the marriage details.

According to 1861 census, William jnr was born c1841 and Henry c1843

They wouldn't be the first couple to marry after their children were born.

William was said to be a bachelor when he married, so the boys can't realistically be attributed to an earlier wife

Unless, of course, he had been married, and had left his wife...............

That's quite a gap between Henry and Nancy.........
