Parents of George Duffield?

	Can anyone either find anything out about George or point me in the right direction? All the information I have is from his marriage certificate. Married 1945 in Fulham Age 24 years Occupation Trooper 410692 R.A.C. (Cooper) Residence 78 Crown Road, Great Yarmouth Father George Duffield (deceased) Father's occupation Seaman Captain Witnesses D.E. Costello and H.E. Holmes I have no idea what R.A.C. stands for, and Google is no help, or why he has the word Cooper in brackets after his presumably service number. Was he stationed in Great Yarmouth or is that where his family lived? There is a birth in Yarmouth at the right time, mmn Chapman but that links to father John Duffield so probably not. He married Lilian Rose Williams but I have had no trouble tracing her ancestry back.

	Got no suggestions at the moment as the 1911 census is probably no help as the father might not have been old enough to be a captain

	Marriage certificates that I have for marriages during either WW1 or WW2 usually give the peacetime occupation as well as military occupation for wartime. I would suspect that "Cooper" refers to George's peacetime occupation.

	Regarding his military career, it might help you to post your query on this WW2 forum: http://www.ww2talk.com/ I would think about checking out that address pre- & post-war to see who else was living there. Jan

	'Cooper ' could have been his civilian occupation. His place of residence in JAS 1945 is not necesarliy his place of birth

	Thank you all for that, I've at least learned something new about marriage certificates. I've been working on this chap on and off for about a year now, so frustrating when his wife's side went back so easily.

	Do you know when he died? You don't say how close a relative he is, but if you aren't directly in contact with his immediate family the death cert might offer a few clues. And though it might lead nowhere, I would check out the address. Assuming you aren't local, you can try asking the staff at the archives centre to look for you, though there might be a charge.
