Until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births

And before 1837, there were no birth registrations at all

Details from the marriage certificate are:-
DATE 8th August 1880, NAME Thomas Jordan, AGED 30, Bachelor,
OCCUPATION, Mariner, RESIDENCE, Wells next the Sea. FATHERS NAME, James Jordan, OCCUPATION, Maltster.
James is the best option for the fathers name.
The registration district is Walsingham.
Witnesses names are Henry Cooke and Laura Wright??
Wells next the sea is in the county of Norfolk

I am trying to trace the birth of Thomas Jordan and his father James.
Thomas married Hannah Elsdon in Wells next the Sea on 9th August 1880.
Thomas is recorded as a mariner on the marriage certificate.
I am looking for the birth and place of birth for both Thomas and his father James Jordan
