That looks good Christine - his army records actually give his birth year as 1882 !

I tried ancestry.co.uk a few years ago and found Charles Herbert James birth reg Oct-Nov-Dec in Cardiff 11a 308.

He has one daughter and one son still living,they are in their eighties but do remember the names of their Uncles and Aunts,they are the people who are most interested in finding any other details.apparently Charles died at the age of 49yrs and they know nothing of his family history so would be interested in any info.They have wondered whether there was an Irish link maybe?
