Yes Jan! What do you think about this situation here? It is all a bit strange. Do you think I should follow this line or not?

I can't see John or Sarah Reed at first glance.
Re. the mother-in-law - to be fair it was her 2nd marriage, and her father had died years before! And her brother's name was similar.
I never asked her about it as she had passed away before I started the tree.
Her error led me up the wrong tree for quite a while I can tell you! I was lucky that my husband's cousin had also started researching and pointed it out before I got in a total mess.
Just goes to show you can never be too careful..

This is fascinating Brummiejan! Why did your mother-in-law do that?! How fascinating!

The marriage certificate definitley says Mary's father is: 'Anthony Reed', a 'Farmer'.

Is there any sign of James Reed and his wife in the census?!

If this is true, then thank goodness for the family memoir I found. It is full of mistakes but is a bit of a bridge.

Anthony is married to an An in 1861. I think this might be his marriage, which supports the father's name as James.
I just wonder if Mary inadvertently had her brother's name recorded when she married? (My mother-in-law did this very thing!!).

Hi Brummie Jan,

Yes I would say the 1851 looks correct! I have pieced this information together somewhat sparodically.

And yes, I also saw the baptism in 1815 for Mary Reed, daughter of James Reed and Sarah Towers. All quite odd!

Hi there, my ancestor Mary REED was born c. 1815 in Yarm, Yorkshire.

From a family memoir it she had a brother William (born c. 1817) and from a newspaper source which was found from this memoir a brother Anthony Reed (c. 1822-1889).

From Mary's marriage in 1840, her father is Anthony REED, a farmer.

I can't find a baptism for any of the three people mentioned. Or ANYTHING on her father. What can I do for more information?

Thanks,

Peter
