i have made a tree of myself, mother, father, sister. and paternal grandparents. but i have no more knowledge than that and i have no relatives i am in contact with to ask. can anyone advise me what i can do please?

Welcome to the message boards.

You need then to obtain copies of birth and marriage certificates to make further progress.

E.G. Your parents birth certificates will give you both their parents names. Their parents marriage certificates will give you the name of their father, their age at marriage ect.

Hi Vanessa,

once you get back further than 1911 you can make use of the census returns which have a wealth of information. You do not say if your grandparents are still living, or if you know when and where they married. Be aware of personal privacy for anyone still living, so do not post personal details, ie date of birth, children etc.

Nice to be able to ask for advice though rather than for someone to do it for you. There is so much to learn especially in the beginning.. I hadn't heard of familysearch.org and many other sites,until some kind soul let me know...

I see, Vanessa, that you have your mother in your GR tree with a birth year of 1932.

There is no birth for her name on freebmd in that year............and it would have meant that she was barely 16 when she married.

The best thing for you to do is to get your parents' marriage cert............you'll find out her correct age, and her father's name, which will mean you can look for her birth and work from there.

hi firstly let me thank you for replying. i am not very genned up on computers so am finding it hard. i dont understand the credit system and i have used some and still no wiser ha ha. my parents are both deceased as are both sides of grandparents. my fathers brother is also. but i know nothing at all about my maternal side as she left my dad when i was small. i have a sister but the last i knew was she was living in rieti italy back in 1986 when my dad died. so i do not know if she is still alive. my dads details are as follows, cecil eric green (had a brother called trevor aubrey, deceased, unsure of born or death dates) born 1925 died 1986, married faith sanders unsure when but in the 50's. paternal grandfather. hedley james green born 1900 died 1971. paternal grandmother irene smith born around 1900 and died approx 1973/74. my paternal side are all from st.austell cornwall u.k and my maternal side were from york u.k my mother had a brother that i think was called stephen/steven and i think she had a sister. my own sister is ann michelle green unsure if she married. was born in 1951 also in cornwall, and as i said she was last known to be in italy where i presume she still is as she moved there in the 70's. sorry but this is all the information i have x
