Looking for any info on Dennis and his wife Mary (Surname not known.) He was born 1829, she was born in Westmeath in 1851. They married and lived in Lancashire. Dennis had a Stepdaughter, Ann Cook, born 1846 and 2 daughters: Eliza (b 1850 in Dunfermline, Scotland) and Catherine (1854 in St Helens)

Have got family in Fife, Scotland in 1851, & have just found them on 1861 at 66 Liverpool Street in Eccleston. Not much info on Scottish census, but 1861 shows them both born Ireland

Anita....Do you know if Catherine McCann married in Scotland/England...her MC would give their father's name.

Cannot find a MC for Dennis and Mary but would hazard a guess she would be "widow Cook"...Owen Cook is in an institution Prescot 1911.

1851 Census .
MCCANN Dennis Head M M 30 Labourer Ireland - -
MCCANN Mary Wife M F 29 Pitworker Ireland - -

Sorry for delay in replying,
Safc - many thanks for that - I only had the first page of that census report. That ias really useful and has opened up a couple more lines for me to look at ...

Eringobragh I had found the Scottish census, but had no idea that Owney was Owen
thank you for the info about him in 1911.
Do not have any further info on Mary, would think that as Elizabeth is only 2 months and Mary is working down the mine that they probably married in Scotland

Anita...

I could not find a marriage between Dennis and Mary in Fife but wherever they married you have an approx.time line of about 6 years eg. from the time of Ann to Eliz. unless they married in Ireland. It may be that Mary was already in Scotland with her first husband and became a widow there...the time line would be the same...Women did work down the Pit but by and large worked on the Pit Top hauling and sorting the Coal /Shale...
Owen was with the McCann's 1861 but then I lose him until 1911..same area but in an istitution...I dont have access to the Census to show details.
Eliza.married James Mc.1870 Reg Bolton.

This is the family 1881 in case you dont have it.

Anita...I would be inclined to see if I couldnt find Catherine McCann's (Sister of Dennis) MC if she married....
I have so far not been able to find a marriage for Dennis and Mary but they may have married in Ireland however it may be worthwhile also searching for a "Cook" death in Fife as I somehow cant see a Widow going from Ireland to Fife to work in the Coalfields.
