Have you followed any of them through the census?

Looked on SP for any possible marriages or deaths?

Or looked on Familysearch?

thanks, I will try looking at census info to see if they fit in with the right wife later. Robert was a very popular name!!!

If they followed the traditional Scottish naming pattern, his father would be Thomas and hers would be James. (the names of their first two sons).

On the tenuous basis that his age is right, he's in Dumfries-shire; his sister Helen's middle name is Welsh and there's a Catherine Welsh in this listing . . . this could perhaps be Adam in 1841:

1841 Scotland Census about Adam Kirkpatrick
Name: Adam Kirkpatrick
Age: 20
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821
Gender: Male
Where born: Dumfriesshire, Scotland

Civil parish: Sanquhar
County: Dumfriesshire
Address: Elliock Bridge
Occupation: App Bellwright
Parish Number: 848
Household Members:
Name Age
James Mccall 25
Jean Mccall 25
Catherine Mccall 4
Isabell Mccall 2
Jean Mccall 5 Mo
Catherine Welsh 45
Adam Kirkpatrick 20

As shown in the 1851 census below, Catherine is the mother of Jean McCall. In view of Helen's middle name, there must be some family connection between Kirkpatricks and Welshes (though possibly not these particular Welshes!):

1851 Scotland Census about Cathrain Welish
