Find Ancestors

Hi there,

I'm new to Genes, so i'm hoping someone out there might be able to help me!

i'm trying to find my grandmother's birth cert details, so I can order it and find out who her father was but I can't seem to find it on Genes.

I know she was born in June 1941 in Devizes, Wiltshire. Her name was Gillian Ann, but i'm not sure if she'd be registered under her mothers maiden name which is Miles or her fathers name which I don't know.

If anyone can help that would be fab

I've just looked again and I realise that that person's birthday is in July/Aug/Sept and my grandmother's birthday was the 26th June 1941 so maybe that's not her?

Parents are allowed 6 weeks after a birth to register it so very possible that a birth on 26th of June would be registered in the Jul/Aug/Sep quarter.

As she was registered under her mother's name, the cert will not include any info about her father...........sorry, but that's the way it is.

Not even if I purchase her actual certificate?

In that case is there any way I could find out who her father was? All I know was he was Jewish

Yes that is her mother but Frank wasn't her father, it was a scandal at the time but my Grandmother's father was a Jewish immigrant we think.

Unfortunately.......unless the Father was named on the birth cert, you have no way of knowing exactly who he was.

Did she name Francis/Frank as her Father on her marriage cert?

Oh I don't know I haven't got a copy of the marriage cert, would I have to order it to find that out?

Did Gillian marry under the surname of Miles or Grey?

I would imagine that if she married under the surname of Grey.......she probably named Francis/Frank as her Father.

Who did she marry?

She might not have even have known who her real Father was.

Gillian married under the name Grey which is interesting. She always referred to Frank as her dad although occasionally spoke about this mystery father who was Jewish, that's all she knew I think.

Gillian then went on to marry Frederick J Roberts in 1961

I very much doubt a copy of the marriage cert would be of any use to you really.

If Gillian married under the name Grey then she was probably adopted by Frank and he was her dad. The birth father will remain a mystery unless another family member can remember any details.

Just to let you know your not the only one with this scenario, but an obit was found in Gran's purse after her death. Still haven't contacted the other family though.
