I think you are right with the 1881 census for Kate Sinson, as she was born in Ardleigh, Essex. Thank you very much, and for the details on Thomas Scammell

I thought it would be under something odd, like the 1861 and 1871 censuses for her!

Well, that sorts out one query because Margaret Emily Simson was also on the 1891 Census, and Thomas S. Scammel is obviously her child
What a spelling for Scammel - Soambol!!!

I have a Catherine Sarah Simson b 22 April 1840 Ardleigh, Essex. She was also known as 'Kitty'. Her parents were Edward John Simson 1807-1869 and Sarah Tayler 1818-1895. Her father Edward was a Vet. Surgeon.
On the 1841 census, Catherine Simson was one years old and at end of the Bromley Road, Ardleigh, Essex.
On the 1851 Census, she was still with her parents at Dead Lane, Ardleigh, age 12.
I cannot find her on the 61, 71 and 81 censuses. Can anyone help please?

On the 1891 census she is with her mother Sarah Simson age 73 at 20 Portland Road, St. Giles, Colchester. On this census, there appears to be a Grandson, Thomas Simson Scammel age 19, Butchers asst. b ESS New Barnet.
Catherine was 50 on this census.
I cannot find anything on Thomas Simson Scammel either, birth, 1881 census.
