Possibly Margaret and Edith's parents:
Marriages Dec 1904
Dickinson John William Warrington 8c 256
Hayes Arabella Warrington 8c 256
xxx Roberts Edith Warrington 8c 256
xxx Searle Henry Warrington 8c 256
but this marriage is a long time before the sisters' births.

Have found a possible marriage for her daughter in 1961.

I won't post as she's probably still alive. If you haven't got details I'll send you a pm.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:35

I think that remarriage to Bonar is a possible as in 1960 they'd moved to California:

U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989

Name: Margaret E Braga
Gender: F (Female)
Residence Year: 1960
Street Address: l232 Berkely dr
Residence Place: Glendale, California
Spouse: Henry J Braga
Publication Title: Polk's Glendale (Los Angeles County, California) City Directory

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:31

On the first shipping list she was going to her fiance H S Braga in New Jersey, think it should have been H J

U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989 about Margaret E Braga
Name: Margaret E Braga
Gender: F (Female)
Residence Year: 1952
Street Address: 10 Zimmer MP
Residence Place: Ridgewood; Midland Park; Fair Lawn; Ho-Ho-Kus;, New Jersey
Spouse: Henry J Braga
Publication Title: Ridgewood, New Jersey, City Directory, 1952

He's a foreman at a company called Caldwells.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:29

Think there's a possibility she remarried:

California, Marriage Index, 1960-1985

Name: Margaret E Braga
Age: 35
Est. Birth: abt 1925
Spouse Name: Leland W Bonar
Spouse Age: 40
Est. Spouse Birth: abt 1920
Date: 15 Dec 1960
Location: Los Angeles

No guarantee it's her.

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:27

I think she was the typical GI bride. Looks like she had a child (Doreen A) to him and then went over and married him.

Looks like she'd been home for a visit:

New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Margaret Braga
Arrival Date: 7 Sep 1952
Port of Departure: London Airport,eng
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Airline: British Overseas Airways Corporation

She was with a Doreen Braga, listed as a child.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:20

This is why she wasn't on the ship on 5 August - she'd already flown there!

New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Margaret Searle
Arrival Date: 30 Jul 1947
Birth Date: abt 1924
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: British (English)
Place of Origin: Great Britain
Port of Departure: London,eng
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Airline: Pan American Airways

With Dorreen A age 1 and was going to the same address as on the shipping list.

MarieCeleste Report 17 Apr 2013 22:17

This may have been Margaret's first attempt to go to USA, although all her details are recorded she didn't actually board the ship:

New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957

Name: Margaret E Searle
Arrival Date: 5 Aug 1947
Birth Date: abt 1925
Birth Location: England
Birth Location Other: stockton heath
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: English
Port of Departure: Southampton
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Queen Mary

She was to have travelled with a Dorreen A Searle, aged 1.

The next of kin in England was father H Searle at 208 Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington.

She had been going to her fiance Mrs ?? H S Braga at 189 Lafette Avenue, New Jersey

Hi Sharon Marie, we've given you links to FreeBMD on your other threads - have you tried using it?

I think this is your gran and her sister's births, Runcorn's not far at all from Warrington:

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Mar 1921
Searle Edith Roberts Runcorn 8a 364

Births Jun 1925
Searle Margaret E Roberts Runcorn 8a 319

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

You would have found your gran's marriage on there so you wouldn't have had to say it was "around 1940s". It's really useful site.

patchem

patchem Report 17 Apr 2013 21:57

Are you sure your Mother was born in 1944 - it appears to show as Stella E Robinson in 1943, Warrington, in ancestry records?

There is not an obvious birth for Edith in Warrington, do your know when and where she died?
The marriage certificate will give the name of her Father, and her age, for help in finding the family.

There are births for Albert Robinson in 1907 and 1910 in Warrington, he could be either or neither, so Father's name and age at marriage needed.
