Help needed please my ancestry has run out I've just got a marriage off scotlandspeople and it doesn't match with dates I have

I have James Liddle b 1814 married Margaret Kidd b 1824 West Lothian Scotland
The children I have for them are
Walter 1851, Margaret 1855,Janet 1857, Robert 1859, Marion 1860, John 1863, William 1866

The marriage I've got is for Maggie (not Margaret ) & Joseph McAlpine they married in 1898 Joseph was 29yrs and Maggie was 21yrs
Maggie parents are right but the marriage puts her birth at 1877 ??

Could some kind person look at the censuses to see where I've gone wrong please

That is the family BUT granddaughter?? going off the dates I thought it could be granddaughter but on the marriage it says father James Liddle mother Margaret Liddle nee Kidd which is the couple in 1891

sorted the missing children James was married twice with children to his first wife Margaret is his second wife

possibly Maggie was brought up by her grandparents all her life and thought of them as her parents and that is why it's on the marriage certificate??

On the 1851 census, MArgaret is aged 26. Her age varies 1-2 years over the census. But ? a little young for an 11 year old daughter.

Jessie is used synonymously for Janet for which it is also a pet name. It is, however, a given name in its own right. The Gaelic equivalent is Teasag.

There was a daughter Janet b 1856/7 ish. Margaret may well have been brought up thinking her grandparents were her parents.

Yes we have come to that conclusion also found out the grandsons in the 1871 census were illegitimate sons of Elizabeth-Archibald Porteous Liddle and Helen, had James Murdock Liddle, I think Helen married the father james Murdock in 1871 not got the certificate yet

As you say Helens husband isn't with her but she still says married so he must be alive
