To find out if anyone else has researched this family have you tried "Search All Trees" under the Search button above?

You can put the names of the family in and see if anyone else has them.

If you find a possible match you can contact the tree owner to see if you have a connection.

I would suggest that you delete the automatic message about looking at their tree. Most members will not open their trees to you until a connection has been established so just type your own message about who you think you may have in common.

Just type in Mellonius with no other information and there are 10 entries including your own.

The person who runs it invites people to get in touch and there's an email address. It looks like there could be a charge for research but she says "Fees are purely to cover my time and are not geared to be a money making exercise. If it is only a couple of names or a piece of information, I am happy to provide free of charge, providing I have the relevant information you’re looking for"

From the homepage:
"Our Aim is to be of service to you if possible through our accumulated documentation or by suggestions advising where you can look for further information. This database is also aimed to include all the people of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and the family lines prior entering into Ceylon and after leaving Ceylon where possible. It also covers the character and history wherever possible."

There's a list of surnames covered on the site and it includes Backhouse, Pereira, Thurgood and Mellonius.


Might be worth contacting.
