The OP says he has found the birth...............so no need for any research on that

The mother died under her birth name

The cousin is not responsible for his debts.

Naming her as his next of kin does not impose any duty on her.

You haven't said if this man left a Will...............even if he did, the cousin can refuse to execute it. One assumes he didn't contact her to ask her permission to name her.............

For Washington DC birth records, try this link (but it's unlikely the cost could be recovered from the Estate)

Washington State

Edit at 1053 in light of Reggie’s post @ 1042.

True that the UK registered birth has been found. However, if she wants to follow up on the rumours that it was also registered in Washington, the links might help.

It sounds as if the immediate problem is the Estate.

If the property is Council/HA owned, the Executor can approach them to clear the property and submit a claim for the rent due and associated costs against the Estate. She should NOT pay out of her own finances. It would be best if someone could go to the property and remove anything of value and all personal papers. Otherwise any items which could be sold could be dumped in a skip.

If there is no one local who she could ask, she could consider appointing a Solicitor to take care of this, and to settle the Estate. All she need do is to sign the papers. Their costs would also come out of the Estate.

The 'tale' can be sorted out later!

all i know is what i have put down,
i have used freebmd also war forces record's,
check american census etc.
i can find no detail's he said he came back from america in 1952 and as his mum was a royalist ,she would not go back after the death of the king.
i know this all seem's odd but this lady does not know which way to turn.
her mother & his mother were sister's.

Just as an aside even if the alleged next of kin is named as an executor in his will she can refuse to act as such if she wishes. The outstanding rent ect is not her responsibility, she personally is not liable to pay although any monies that are proven to be his responsibility can be claimed from his estate.

He was clearly unused to telling the truth......witness his fabrications about his birthplace.

You don't need anyone to look worldwide..........you already know his birth details

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 May 2013 08:58

So the mother didn't marry..........or, if she did, reverted to her maiden name

Who registered her death?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 May 2013 08:56

If the person you know is named as his NOK.................then he obviously didn't know of any other relatives.

HOW is she his cousin?

Have you tried looking for info yourself on freebmd?

Like you say Martyn, it does sound a bit iffy but who knows some of it might have a grain of truth in it.

The French honour is the Croix de Guerre

Floyd is definitely American in origin..............

When/where did the mother die?

martynsue

martynsue Report 3 May 2013 08:47

could anyone who has a world wide sub help me sort out a puzzle,
i have a chap who died very recent,he named his elderly cousin as his next of kin,she has not seen or heard from him since the 1960s,
he has told other people he was born in beirst france, registered in france, also in harrow-wildwing head quarters, and in washington as his father was american.
i have found him on free bmd under his mother's name ( for surname & maiden name,i cannot find any travel detail's for him or his mum ,
i need to know if he had any sibling's,did his mum actualy marry his dad as it all seem's a bit far fetched to me.
she was supposed to have been a spy in the 2nd ww?
also recieved a military cross from france,
his mother was gladys e chinn 1909 uk.
he was born 1946 hendon name floyd f chinn,
father floyd burtchett,
he used his father's surname when he married in the 1960s,
it also states hi parent's married in a russian orthodox church?
although it is not stated where this marriage took place.

did he make up this story about his parent's or are there any fact's out there to back this up.

any info would be most welcome,
this lady has got to sort out his thing's 300miles from were she lives and has been told that rent is owed and building up.

thank you.
