Jennifer,

Welcome to the boards.

As Martyn did not return to the boards after May 2013 he may not be expecting any replies now.

If you click on his name you can send him a pm and then discuss your history with him.

(Genes do not tell him automatically of any replies on the boards)

Hi Martyn

Your GGrandfather William's brother, George, is my husband's GGGrandfather. I'm struggling with an accurate date of birth for George as on some censuses is says abt 1870 and some 1873 and his wedding certificate says he's 30 in 1905 making it 1875 but I'm fairly sure this is the right family because my Mother in Law knows he was one of 16. I did wonder if there was two Georges - one born in 1870 that died soon after but I haven't been able to establish this.

I agree their parents were Robert and Isabel(la) but I think the Vert link is a red herring......there are two Robert and Isabellas in the Rothbury area at that time.....Isabella Vert is further away from Rothbury, though. I might be wrong, however. I'm struggling to find their marriage but think Robert was born 1805 Whittingham died 1886. Isabella born 1809 Rothbury died 1878 Rothbury.

I think Robert's (1805) parents were William Richardson and Florence Crozier but I've reached a dead end with finding anything on them. Thought Florence would be a good name but nothing except her registering her children.

Let me know if you want to share any more info. Regards, Jenny

You respond on here, then we can all see what is going on.

I could not see an obvious birth for Adam or Andrew Taylor on free bmd - perhaps they did not like records.

Good point about the 1874 marriage in Newcastle. I never really looked at it that way before.

Have you got Mary in 1841 with family?

If it is the correct family then Andrew's birth certificate will give mother's maiden name.

Hi all, thank you for your responses.

I feel that Robert had not been married previously as most of their children seem to be named after Robert and Mary's parents and peers.
Mary's father was Andrew and her mother was Eleanor Sharp.
I have trawled through a lot of parish records for Roberts Marriage & Birth to no avail.
Some of them seem to be missing for the dates I am looking for.

I am not quite sure In which Parish I should be looking.

I also think that Roberts parents were Robert and Isabella, possibly Vert.

Martyn

Seeing as he had a daughter called Isabella then she could have been named for his mother:

You won't be able to find a birth record for Robert.......he was born before the GRO came into being.

Look for a baptism............

You could get the marriage certificate and then see if it fits with what you know about them - place, age, occupation, address.
Have you got Robert and Mary in the 1841 and 1851 censuses?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 5 May 2013 13:14

Hello Martyn - welcome to the boards.

Just because a couple claimed to be married it doesn't mean that they were! There may have been some impediment as to why they didn't marry until later, such as one of them being married to someone else so they waited until that first spouse had died. (Although quite a few didn't bother waiting and just blithely committed bigamy).

Or, perhaps they just never got round to it until later?

EDIT:
Also, I'm a little suspicious of that 1874 marriage - they seem to stay consistently further up Northumberland so if they DID ever marry they would have been more likely to do it locally rather than travel into Newcastle.

Hello,

Can anyone please help me to find the marriage between Robert Richardson Born 1833 Born in Plainfield, Northumberland, & Mary Taylor Born 1932 in Low Alwinton, Northumberland,

There is a record of a Robert Richardsons Marriage to Mary Taylor in Newcastle - October to December 1874 - Vol 10b Page 305 - This would make Robert about 41 Years old.

However, their eldest son John, was Born 1855 in Allendean Spittle, Northumberland, and every census from 1861 claims they claim they were married.

The Birth Certificate of My Great Grandfather (William Richardson) Born 1856 - Shows that his mother was Mary Taylor & his father was Robert Richardson.

Any Help would be much appreciated as I seem to have come to a complete dead end with both Roberts Birth & Marriage.

Regards

Martyn
