Another daughter?

Reverend Dr. Mary Haggart, born at Ottawa, Ontario on March 14 th, 1920, passed away at Central Butte Regency Hospital, Central Butte, Sask., on May 7 th, 2007. Mary was predeceased by her parents, John & Myra Haggart, her 3 brothers: John, George and Robert, two nephews: Wayne and Teddy and brother-in-law Clifford. She is survived by sisters: Elsie, Jeanne (Leonard) and Margaret all of Ontario; a number of nieces and nephews including David Haggart of Salt Spring Island, B.C., as well as a large extended family in Saskatchewan. Mary was in Domestic Service for a few years, a member of the Red Cross Corps, and a member of the CWAC, in which she served as a pay sergeant for more than four years, at Fort Frontenac, Kingston, Ontario. Following discharge she earned a B.A. at the University of Western Ontario, graduated from the Center for Christian Studies, and Emmanuel College in the University of Toronto, later Univerisity of Saskatchewan, and was honored with a doctorate honorus causa by St. Andrew's College, Saskatoon. Mary was ordained by London Conference of the United Church of Canada and settled in the Cabri-Pennant Pastoral Charge 1954. She was called to Balmoral United Church in Saskatoon, Sask. (1961-1966), to Leask Pastoral Charge (1966-1972) and to Central Butte Pastoral Charge(1972-1985). In 1974-75 when the United Church of Canada was celebrating its fiftieth anniversary Mary was elected president of Saskatchewan Conference, the first woman to have the responsibility. In 1977 she was nominated as a candidate for the office of Moderatorship of the United Church of Canada. Mary understood that her first responsibility was to be a caring pastor, to enable committed Christians to participate in the ministry of the whole people of God, to recruit members for ordered ministry, and make time for the wider church. Mary retired to the Cottage Development in Palliser Regional Park. She continued to work in Ten Days Development Education, Saskatchewan (National committee); Saskatchewan committee for International Cooperation, and the Rural Inter-church Development Education Project. She was named a Global Citizen in 1992. In 2006, Mary had to give up her cottage at Palliser Park and moved into the Iver Main Place in Central Butte, Saskatchewan, where she remained with lots of loving, tender care, until her passing. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 12 th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Central Butte United Church . Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Rites will be conducted by Branch #213. As an expression of sympathy, contributions may be made to the Iver Main Place Inc., Box 550 Central Butte, Sask.
