I have a lead on Ruth and have sent a message to Florence. I went to the address for her that was on the note.

Hello Florence and welcome to the Community boards.

There is just one Beverley Carter who was born in Germany in a tree on this site - but she was born in 1961 so maybe not old enough? The tree belongs to a Beverley Hardie. :-S

As Florence is a new poster, I will send a friendly message on how to return to her thread. :-)

Is there anything in the note that would give a clue to how the three are connected?

I would think that the note must have been placed there by someone who worked on the construction of the original bridge:-

The Nyali Bridge was a floating pontoon bridge linking Mombasa Island to the Kenyan mainland.
The bridge linked the Mzizima district of Mombasa to Nyali,[1] and was built in 1931.

So the people mentioned must have been born before this date.

What are the dates of the birth and marriage?

A note bearing the handwritten names:

1) Ruth Lang of 133, Tithelands Harlow Essex
2) Helen Chambers of Box 20, Curzen Crescent, Sandall, Doncaster
and
3) Beverley Carter of Box 10, 7550, Raslatt, Schwarzwald, Germany

was found in 1982 when the Nyali Bridge in Mombasa, Kenya was being reconstructed.

The note was in a box and carefully deposited in a niche in one of the floating pillars indicating it was meant to be found later.

It was found by a construction engineer who is now a relative of mine by marriage. So...any ideas about how to trace these people's relatives to return the note to them?

I have found a birth certificate for a Beverley Carter born in Hanover (seems likely?) and a Helen Chambers Marriage certificate from Harlow Essex (seems possible) but no trace of Ruth so far.

Wonder if they were on holiday, on duty or what? Intriguing!!
