The record says this. I obtained your mother's marriage certificate (rose) to Arthur Worthington in order to obtain her fathers name. the certificate showed his name was Michael and his profession as a general labourer. I searched for a death of Michael Pacitti and found a Michael Pacitti who died in wilesdean age 70. The informant on the death certificate was A Pacitti, son living at an address in NW6. I wrote to Anthony Pacitti in 2009 and have not received a reply so far.

As you can see Peter.........all the above information seems to fit in nicely with all the names, dates, addresses and places that you have given us along the way.

I know that your main aim is to find your Brother Victor.

I don't want to be responsible for you wasting money on certificates that cost £9.25.........

If it was me........i would purchase a copy of the birth cert of Vittorio Pacitti born 1946 just to confirm whether or not he was indeed the son of your Mother.

I have no idea if the Victor who married Kathleen Drury in 1968 is your Brother...........Vittorio had the middle initail of "M"........so maybe, just maybe that is your Victor?

I will obtain certificates. Which ones though? The death of Josephine and marriage of victor to Kathleen?

Peter56

Peter56 Report 31 Jul 2013 19:46

I have no notes on the marriage. The records are very basic and are only recorded from what my mother told the children's society I think. It simply states that she married Worthington when victor was a year old but that they had separated and then I was conceived thanks to the guest house owner whom my mother worked for, named as George Marshall but not on any official documents and definitely not on my birth certificate :(

Please can you give us all the details on the Pacitti/Worthington marriage certificate that you have.

PH. I think that the Vittorio Pacitti that I found the obituary for and was on the electoral roll in Edinburgh is nothing to do with Peter. I, personally, am convinced that Peters Victor Worthington spent the first year of his life as Vittorio Pacitti born 1946.

Mary born about 1891 then.

Josephine......(If it's the correct Josephine) died in Southend On Sea, Essex....

Might this be a possibilty........or just coincidence??

Peter56 Report 31 Jul 2013 18:59

Very true. Thank you. How complex and confusing it all is :(. There is also mention in my documents of a Mary Pacitti (perhaps a grandmother) I can't quite make out the address but it looks like 32 Radfern Road, Houlesden? She was aged 65 on this document which was signed in sept 1956

Peter....

You say that Vittorio's brother Anthony said that he was born in 1941.........the Vittorio posted earlier on here, was born in 1946........

England & Wales, Birth Index, 1916-2005
about Vittorio M Pacitti Name: Vittorio M Pacitti
Mother's Maiden Surname: Pacitti
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1946
Registration District: Hampstead
Inferred County: Devon, Cornwall, Scilly. Dorset, Somerset
Volume Number: 5c
Page Number: 1575

So it can't be the same Vittorio!

Peter56

Peter56 Report 31 Jul 2013 18:44

Hi, a letter was sent to the Vittorio Pacitti but unfortunately a response came from Vittorio's brother saying that Vittorio died in 2009. He said Vittorio has been born on 4th feb 1941, son of lungi and Teresa so not the son of rose (my mother). I have no reason to believe that Victor's name was ever Vittorio but my files do say that indeed she met and married mr Worthington when Victor was 1 yrs old. It says that Victor resided at 43 review road, Dagenham, Essex whilst my mother was in a mother an baby home with me during her confinement (Amhurst Lodge, Ealing)

Hi Peter... I think I am right in saying that the information in your file is only as good as the informant who was probably your mother. I think that your mother gave birth to Vittorio Pacitti in the September quarter of 1946. In the December quarter of 1947 she married Alfred H Worthington (you put Arthur in your post above) and he, Alfred, took on the baby who would have been about a year, as his own. It was not uncommon to change the childs surname to that of the new husband, Worthington. I also think that Vittorio was changed to Victor. Vittorio went well with Pacitti and the italin connection but not well with Worthington. By the time you were born this boy would have been nine years old which fits in with what you say in your opening post. I assume that your mother was married to Alfred at the time of your birth even though he was not your father.

When your file was put together your brother would have spent all but the first year of his life as Victor Worthington and to all intents and purposes this was who he was now. This also explains why there is no further trace of him as Vittoria Pacitti.
