Jabez was born in Woodchester Gloucester in 1838. He is on the 1841 and 1851 censuses but does not appear on the 1861 census and I have not found reference to him on other records. His father was Obadiah Stephens and his mother was Sarah Stephens (nee Tunley). Information would be welcome.

Thank you to those who have replied to my post about Jabez Stephens. I did look into the Jabez in Cornwall but it does not seem to be him. There seems to be no marriage or death relating to him after 1851 either. I did wonder is he had perhaps died in the military but couldn't find anything relevant. As his mother Sarah also 'disappeared' after the 1851 census and Obadiah remarried in 1853, she must have died in that short period. Maybe she and Jabez died together!. No luck so far.
