Hi! I have been trying to trace my father's line back and have become unstuck after my grandfather. (Sounds terrible doesn't it?) My problem is, The family is from Jersey, and either my great granddad or my great great granddad is Albert John Delahaye (Could be spelled De La Haye). According my the family, this man was found as a baby abandoned on the church steps by someone never identified. He was named by the church, given a very common name for the time and each year money for his upkeep would be found in the church. (I don't know how they knew it was for him and not just random money) I have searched high and low for records of him, but have found nothing. There is an Albert John Delahaye on one of the census' in jersey at 15 living as a lodger and working the farm he lived on, but without knowing when Albert was abandoned, I can't know for sure if this farm boy is my ancestor. If anyone has any advice or can help I would be eternally grateful I am happy to find out literally anything about him!
