Neil, have you tried looking on Scotlandspeople for a death for Janet please? If you have her maiden surname you can use that to search for her death and if the informant knew she had been married to Peter you can use Fraser to cross reference it. That way you would find out if she had married again after Peter died.

Thankyou for your posts and advice. I have located all available records up until the girls left the orphans home in 1902 and 1904.This information is from the orphan's home records and does not state where they were employed "in service". I can't identify them in the 1911 Census. They may have married in the intervening period.
I've also found their mother Janet in the 1901 census in Glasgow but can't find her in the 1911 census. She may have died, she may have remarried or she may have moved somewhere else..
Any suggestions?
Neil

Maggie with a more specific area of birth. Sorry doesn't help with your query though. Do you know whereabouts they were in service?

Hi Neil,

Have you entered the names you are researching into the Search all Members Tree box (under Search at the top of the page)? It may be that someone else has them in their tree and knows more about them. Good luck.

Have you managed to trace the death of their Mum please? There is the chance that she will have remarried but you can search for her death on Scotlandspeople using more than one surname for a female. You can also reduce the number of search results using an approximate year of birth.

Although they were put in the orphanage they may have kept in touch with family members.

Highly likely one or both of them were married by 1911, but like you say their names are fairly common so it's going to be difficult to find. How have you got back to them?

Thanks for your note.
I've seen the girls on the 1901 Census at the orphanage.
I've spent a small fortune (probably turned the Scottish economy around) looking for he girls in 1911 on Scotland's People. Unfortunately there are hundred's of Maggies and Annies, the Census details are not sufficiently definitive and I don't know which County to look in although I've assumed Glasgow and Renfrewshire. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for information about Annie Fraser b. 12 Jul 1884, Glasgow and her sister Maggie Fraser b. 29 August 1887 in Kames. The girls father Master Mariner Peter Fraser died 7 Jan 1891 in Glasgow and their mother Janet placed them in the Kilmalcolm Orphans home on 29 October 1894. Annie left the home and entered service in March 1902 and Maggie did likewise in June 1904. Can any one assist me with tracing the girls?
