A general search on scotlands people shows 1 marriage in 1872 between a James Miller and a Maria ? in Dumbarton, but maiden name is not Burns.

Could Maria have been married before and so was married under another name?

It may also be that James was never married to Maria Burns because he was married to someone else?

I take it you don't have Bridget's death certificate. It gives her husband's name as JOHN Millar, a Smallware Hawker. He was the informant and signed John Millar. There is an entry in the RCE (Register of Corrected Entries).

I am not seeing John on the 1891 census but by then he may not have been living in King Street.
