You could also check www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk which is a pay per view site.
There are 3 David Douglas born in Midlothian between 1800 and 1806, one in south Leith which is the one I have found here on familysearch.
None in Inveresk itself.

In the Ancestry version of that 1851 census, David's birthplace is transcribed as Innerwick, which is near Dunbar, in East Lothian. (Tantallon Castle is also in East Lothian, near North Berwick.)

You'd have to view the census on SP to see what the image actually says.

SP shows no births of a David Douglas in Innerwick - but then registration wasn't compulsory at that time. There are these East Lothian births - two of them are duplicated, with different GROS numbers:

EDIT Well they have they marriage of David and Catherine wrong for a start.

Not sure why you have started this thread and not followed David Douglas on the Mary Douglas Chirnside thread. Some of the info here is on that thread.

Have you looked on Scotlandspeople to see if David died after statutory registration began in 1855 and before the 1861 census please? If he did his parents will be named on the death registration if the informant knew the details.

Another tree has the marriage record and also the same parents.
