Looking for deaths of Mr Barclay in Hammersmith/Fulham/Greenwich/Kensington gives only these from free bmd:

Deaths Jun 1919
Barclay William I 42 Greenwich 1d 795

Rather too young:
Deaths Mar 1921
Barclay Colin E 27 Kensington 1a 165

Mary Report 12 Oct 2014 16:57

Arthur D Barclay married Millie Baker.

Arthur Douglas Barclay born 1898(Blackheath Kent) died1979 Norfolk.
Their 1st son Geoffrey Douglas Barclay 1919 died 2006 Norfolk.

Arthur and Minnie on London Electoral Rolls in Greenwich- Hammersmith.
So maybe that marriage has no connection to Gertrude Hettie.

Under what name did she die and where and when.

OK.

From some pm's received:

Thanks - this is definitely my grandmother's uncle.
I somehow need to link him or his wife to Dorothy Agnes Baker in Poplar in the workhouse.
Then I need to find her husband who we were told was John Frederick Barclay -she lived in Hammersmith in 1909/10.

My father was born 24th Sept 1910 - George Frederick Barclay, and his sister Bertha Winifred was born 22nd April 1909 - I can't find any original birth certificates or a marriage between a John Frederick Barclay and a Florence Hettie Baker.

Possible birth for aunt:

Births Sep 1854
SNELL Mary Ann Sarah Kingston 2a 167

Aunt's birth and marriage certificates will give more information about the family, including Florence's grandparents.

Asked how the knowledge of John F Barclay came about ...

PM RECEIVED...

I have no idea where the name came from - I was just told that that was my grand father's name.
My father registered his own birth when he was 21 and there is not a father's name on that!
It looks now as if my grand mothers name was Florence Hettie Snell - someone found her for me yesterday in the 1911 census.

patchem Report 13 Oct 2014 19:59

Anyone found a birth for Florence - which is why I said the marriage and birth certificate of the aunt would be useful?

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 28 Oct 2014 22:04

I have the birth certificate for the aunt - Mary Anne Sarah SNELL born 18 Sept 1854 in Hampton - but no father registered. Her mother was Mary Ann SNELL..
The wedding certificate for MAS Snell to George Henry Baker in Hampton on June 11th 1878 names her father as Francis Oburne - deceased.

I can't find any links to Francis Oburne - andI think I need that to get my grandmother's - Florence's mother or father's name I think?

patchem

patchem Report 29 Oct 2014 06:51

So this marriage references that I posted gave both of the aunt's surnames.

Marriages Jun 1878
Baker George Henry Kingston 2a 432
xxxxxOBURNE Mary Ann S S Kingston 2a 432
xxxxSNELL Mary Ann S Kingston 2a 432

Have you looked for Osburne, O'Burn, Obyrne, etc etc?

Thanks, I think she's the Kingston Snell (2a 167) born Sept 1854 and marries George Henry Baker in June 1878 in Hampton, Middx.
I've found a Mary Ann Snell born in Hampton in 1829 who is I hope her mother - she appears to be widowed between 1851 and 1861 - which should fit with Francis Oburne being deceased when his daughter marries in 1878 - now I need to find him!
