I did try searching for Mellodieu on the Lancs OPC site, but there were no entries for that surname.

Does that mean that the automatic phonetic surname search only works if it finds at least one entry for the initial searched surname? (Hope that makes sense).

So I've learned something new. If I don't get matches, don't assume that soundalikes will automatically appear, try different spellings.

The person I'm looking for married as Mary Melody and was named on her daughter's birth cert. Malady. FamilySearch brought up Mellodieu when searching for Malady and it is the first time I have come across the dieu spelling. What I thought was a dead end has now been opened up by all the different spellings you have found.

This may be my Mary Mallady's baptism as she gives Shuttleworth as her place of birth on the 1851 census. (Living in Bolton, Lancashire under her married name Guest, wife of William).

Grasping at straws here, but there is a Rachele Melody birth c1774 Lancashire living in Bolton in 1851 who would be the right age to be Mary's mother.
