Find Ancestors

hello there I have been tracing my maternal side of my tree and have been told that my great grandmothers maiden name ( Day) has gypsy origins? is this correct?? this is what my mum and nan say but I'm not sure how to find out is there anybody who can help me please.

my g grandmothers name was alma harriot day b 1877 Dartford
her parents were Edmund john day b abt 1850 & charlotte joyce b abt 1849

I have the day family going back to john day b abt 1765 in burham kent.
