I'm wanting to discover more info about my maternal grandfather Christopher Metcalfe aka Kit Metcalfe (1921-1988). He was born in Bedlington, Northumberland then lived the majority of his life in Cullercoats, Tyne and Wear. I believe his mother was called Annie and he had several siblings including a brother called Alan. Kit served in the navy during World War 2, then after the war he had several jobs in the industrial sector, along with working on the construction of the Tyne Tunnel.

I am also keen to find out about my grandfather's parents. All I know is his mother was called Annie and the family lived in Bedlington.

Any help on this will be much appreciated.

This looks like his parents marriage but you would be best to buy his birth certificate to double check

His surname Metcalfe definitely has an 'e' at the end.

I think my grandfather had another brother called George.

He did......born 1925.

The "e" at the end of Metcalfe.... is missing from George's birth registration.

Edit: Note that the "e" was missing from George and Annie's marriage registration too.

Adam....Following on from the info supplied by PricklyHolly ([email protected]) I have a book of Cullercoats and it shows the family of James Gilbert Carmichael listed as living at Flat 2 Main Street 1911 and also 1933.
The people listed are James Gilbert Carmichael snr. Sarah Carmichael, James Gilbert jnr. and Thomas Armstrong (Carmichael).Don't know why Annie is not listed.

Jas Gilbert Carmichael was b North Shields 1878 and the son of James Carmichael and Hannah Boyle..They married Dec Quarter 1875 Tynemouth.
