Many thanks to all.
I have most if not all this info except for John ,Daniel birth, bap. I have copies of two letters from Carherine Dunn New York 1854/1857 to her son John in Melbourne Australia Catherine states that William Joseph disappeared and not seen again by 1857,.Daniel bedridden by stroke? believed to have died in N.Y.sometime from 1857/59 when Catherine returned to England.
Ellen/Ellenor married Owen McDermott, Owen lost at sea 1856 Ellen/Ellenor remarried had daughter but Catherine did not mention new husband by name only being a shipmate of her son John when serving on the ship Ripon.

Anyone researching this family and would like a copy of the letters from Catherine let me know. Where was William J until going t o USA ?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 10 Dec 2015 10:03

So was Catherine saying that WJ had disappeared from NY, or could it be that he hadn't gone to NY at all, and had disappeared in England?

Does she give any indication as to when he disappeared, or how long it was since she'd last had contact with him? I'm assuming some time between the two letters - ie - between 1854 and 1857?

EDIT: But William Dunn is such a common name that it maybe impossible to pinpoint him, if in any records. Also, if he "disappeared" deliberately, he may have changed his name.

Catherine in her letter 1854 NY City to her son John states that William and Daniel are with her,in the 1857 letter states that it is three years since William left the house and has not been seen or heard from since and he may have drowned Catherine does not say why she thinks this may have happened,

William was 45 yrs old when he disappeared,i have no clue as to what type of work he did or anything about him that is why i was hoping to find him on the 1841/51 UK census,
I do not think it possible to find him in USA if he decided to leave for some reason.
