I wonder if someone could look at the service records for James McCluskey d.o.b. 1877 in Glasgow.

His parents are Henry and Agnes nee Woods, and married to Isabella nee Smith in 1899.
He is on the 1901 Scottish census living in Gilbert Street, Glasgow with Isabella.

Thank you

Thank you Shirley,
Can't be sure if this is him.

His wife married my grandad in 1929 and the family story was that James had died during WW1 but I cannot verify this .

I can't find a death for him in Scotland .

Typing at the same time Shirley,

2nd one looks promising though.

If he was killed in action would it show parents or spouses names would you know ?

Thank you Sylvia and malyon,

I don't yet have James full d.o.b. but going by the 1901 census he was born in 1877.
He had children born between 1901 and the last child born 1912 .

Thank you for looking but i can't really say if the last one is him.

In 1911 James and Isabella are living at 16 Sandyford Street (it's a tenement of several flats), Kelvinhaugh, Glasgow. (Same district as in 1901.)

James, head, 35, dock labourer
Isabella, wife, 29
Annie, daughter, 9
Isabella, daughter, 7 [?]
Ellen, daughter, 6
James, son, 4
Joseph, son, 2
Thomas, son, 3 mths
Maggie Smith, relative, 17, single, charwoman

It says they've been married 10 years, and have had 6 children, all living.
Number of years married is a couple of years out from what you said, but because of the relative named Smith, I'm assuming it's the right couple

Sylvia, the place you thought looked like Sheffleston will be Shettleston, which is a district of Glasgow.

James & Isabella's marriage cert will give their ages, and details of parents' names;

1900 MCCLUSKEY JAMES
SMITH ISABELLA
ANDERSTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 0387

As I expect you already know, Jean, spending a few credits on Scotlands People will let you see the image of the original document, and print it.

ArgyllGran,

thank you so much for the 1911, I didn't get that far to look at that census, was concentrating on the marriage . which I have found, also Isabella's mother's death in Sandyford Street so we have the right family.

Her father is Thomas Smith ( Pottery worker ) and her mother's name is Margaret Kilpatrick.

James is my Grandmother's older brother, when she died in 1927 my grandad married Isabella in 1929, I presume so that he had someone to look after his children. but the marriage only lasted about a year as Isabella died in 1930.

Just to rule it out - that James who died during WW1, with father Thomas, and home address at 5 James Street -

he's listed as unmarried.

Hi Shirley,

No not yet.
I just wanted to find the exact date he died so I could put him to rest so to speak .

I don't know if it would show parents or spouses on a record if he died during WW1.
