Answer to your question of 1507 today
These are all siblings of Alfred Charles, so aunts/uncles to his children and yes their kids and his would be cousins.

What's with all the different surnames during those periods ?? Any ideas ?

I was told that once recorded in the register it couldn't be moved. Regardless of whether it was a bigamist wedding.

KathleenBell

Any marriage that took place should be on the BMD index even if it was bigamous.

We found a report of the bigamous marriage for the parents of the person I was helping in The Yorkshire Post (well someone else found it actually).

If Rosemary married her "second" husband using the Smith surname and you can't find a marriage for her and Alfred Derek Smith, have you considered that she may have changed her surname to Smith by Deed Poll?

I was helped by a couple of people on this site to find an entry in the London Gazzette where my mother-in-law changed her suname to that of my father-in-law in 1943 as father-in-law had been married in 1926 but divorce was not possible for them at that period (too expensive and difficult to get). I had found a mention of it on mother-in-law's entry in the 1939 register.

Could be worth looking into, because even if a marriage was bigamous there should still be an entry for it.

To confuse matters even more, this looks like the birth of her father 'Harold S' - Note his middle name !! :

Births Sep 1887 (>99%)
SPARLING Harold Smith Gt. Ouseburn 9a 94

Have a Doctor's appt soon but will work on it later.....

I now have 2 very complicated threads to work on here but I just love a challenge and it is not often nowadays that there is anything on these boards to really 'get your teeth into' :-D :-D

I never found those details during my search. So that's fab.

Her wedding to frank - she was smith, and she'd put her father as "Harold smith". It's all so confusing

Derek Alfred Smith
Year: 1949
Country: England
County: West Yorkshire
Parliamentary Division: Barkston Ash
Place of Abode: 199 Abbots Road
Reference Number: Barkston Ash

Also there Rosemary Frances Smith

Might be worth searching recent ERs using Derek as his first name.

Dea

Dea Report 22 Mar 2016 09:03

Just curious about that second marriage cert - she married as 'Smith' - her 'married name', yet she stated that she was a spinster. - What surname did she give for her father - Smith or Sparling?

Just trying to work out if she did actually marry Mr. Smith, in the absence of a marriage. If there was one and we could find it, it could be very useful to us!!

Perhaps the bigamy had been committed with 2 other ladies and he did not actually 'marry' Rosemary ??
