Hi R Rose - aha, at least my thoughts are sensible. I really am thinking the tree on Ancestry has got the wrong Violet Gardner (Albert living and Violet dying in Sussex).

I just need to work out which Albert he is in the 1911 census. Tough one!

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Malyon. Thank you for the above. Yes, that's the information I have too. I'm just confused because another tree has the same people, but Albert surviving 1920s and Violet dying in Sussex. I guess they could be wrong?

With regards to the census returns, there are two possibilities. The Albert you mention above and another whose father is an ambulance driver.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for being a sounding board for me to talk through my thoughts!

Lisa, re that possible second marriage for Violet to Hale, if you go to freebmd.org.uk and search births surnames Hale mmn Gardner you will see a possible birth Camberwell. Possibly still living so I won't post details here.

Edit , I see you have him on your tree so at least I've come to the right conclusion lol.

That's great - thank you.

Violet didn't know what year she was born in and even though she is officially (as with the 1939 register, marriage etc) Violet, she said her name was Viola. Apparently, she had a brother called Mark, who went into the clergy and died in WW1, but I can't find any info about him.

I'm getting the feeling her family went under the radar!

Thank you so much for your help and research.

I've searched for the name and Hainault Lodge - nothing.

Hi RR - where did you find the info re. Violet Hale as an unpaid domestic?

Re the Worthing death, that is in the name of Hall so would suggest it isn't the right one, assuming she married again. I would look at that tree on Anc' but the page is "temporarily unavailable"

Lisa, not coming up with a definite birth with all initials ( using freebmd.ork.uk) , I think you will have to get the marriage cert to see if her father is named to track her on the census.

Lisa Report 2 Jun 2016 17:30

Hi Malyon - yes, I've looked. Thank you. AND it should all fall into place very nicely, except other trees are showing Albert as being alive for some time after 1927. I have searched the divorce directories and no joy. ALSO - they have Violet dying in Sussex and I can confirm this NOT the case, so I think there has to be two Violet's, married to Albert Halls. Massive coincidence and massive pain.

I am banging my head on a brick wall.

Thank you SO much for your help. I need more.

so the census for 1911 that I posted with father henry mother annie was the right one you can see the image on GR if you have credits I tried to copy it to send you but would not let me cannot find family in 1901census

Rambling Rose - you maybe onto something here. I think I have been putting two and two together and coming up with a plausible answer, but not quite. The trees on ancestry may well correct and I'm confusing my Violet with theirs. BUT two Violet Rose L Gardners in the same place at the same time?

I'm very interested in your search for Violet R L Hale. Her birth date was 24 November, year around 1900 (she didn't know!). Where can I find this?

Thank you!

Household (1 Person)
Hainault Lodge , Dagenham M.B., Essex, England

FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) ROLE DOB OCCUPATION
Violet R L Hale Patient 24 Nov 1909 Unpaid Domestic Duties

Note, the date of birth on image is given as 24 Aug 98, the date of Nov is a correction above, and may refer to something else?

Don't rely on Ancestry trees unless there is a verifiable source!

I would say the 1927 death is the right one, given that Violet remarried the following year Camberwell. Should say widow on this cert

Marriages Mar 1928 (>99%)
Hale Ernest E Hall Camberwell 1d 990
Hall Violet R L Hale Camberwell 1d 990

As suggested buy the first marriage cert for Albert's father's name to be sure.

Wow - you guys are experts. Thank you so much.

Well, some interesting info above. Violet Rose Gardner was my great grandmother (died 2000) and the mother of my grandmother, Iris Hall (1926). We (my family, Violet's grandaughter - my mother) were told Albert died and Violet remarried and had another child. Hence, I assumed my Albert Hall was the one listed as dying in 1927. BUT - going on your info above (MargaretM) he didn't die at all (well, until 1995).

I think I had better have a look at the trees on Ancestry.

Thanks again, all.
