Thinking aloud -

assuming Betty and Daniel remained married, if she had died before he did, then it would have been in or near Hendon - but there's no apparent record of that.

So presumably she outlived him.
It's possible that she's still alive, even if born just after her parents married.

It would seem reasonable to assume that her official name was Betty, and not Elizabeth, as she was married as Betty, and is Betty in all the ER's.

Doesn't solve the question of her birth, however!

PM from Bill -

Se was living in the MSQs Mill hill in 1961that I know. And she had children how many I don't know
BILL

Shirley has already posted that Betty was with Daniel in 1965.

Re children, if in England/Wales, there's only one possible Fraser / Elliot birth - in Darlington in 1955. No idea if relevant or not.
If in Scotland, it's impossible to find out, as Fraser's such a common name, and mms can't be factored in to the search.

Bill -
you say Betty had three brothers, but you give four names. One of them must be a middle name - which one?

As the parents married in 1914, maybe the Bessie I mentioned earlier could be the right person after all. (However, the middle name may indicate this isn't her, as there's no middle name mentioned at marriage.)

She would have been 9 years older than Daniel. This is her birth, just in case:

1915 ELLIOT BESSIE LOCKHART F ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/04 1192

You can view the image of the original for a few credits on SP.

Can you give us any more information of any sort about Betty, Bill?

For instance, you say "last known at MSQs at Mill Hill Barracks "
What year was that? Even approximately?

Did she and Daniel have children - your cousins?

Please tell us everything on the marriage cert - any little clue might help.

When you want to reply to a question on your thread, or to add anything else, please do so in the white box at the very end of the thread, below where it says "Add your reply". Then click "Submit".
That way all the helpers can see the added info, and not just one person .

Bill -
When was Betty born?
If we knew her birth date, we could probably find her death record.

There are no births of a Betty Elliot (or variation of spelling) in Edinburgh 1900-25, but 11 Elizabeths, per SP. (15 with names starting with Eliz . . .)

There's one Bessie, but born 1915, so several years older than Daniel:

How about buying either his DC to see his maritial status and the informants name (£9.25) or a copy of his Letters of Administration (£10). https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

The Letters should tell you who all of his eligible heirs were - wife then children if she was deceased, followed by his parents or siblings

A bit on the Charlton Star.

Elisabethville was an 8,851 GRT ocean liner which was built in 1921 for Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo. In 1930 the company became Compagnie Maritime Belge. She was used on the Antwerp - Matadi route.

In 1940, Elisabethville was requisitioned by the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) for use as a troopship. She briefly returned to merchant service in 1946 before being requisitioned again in 1947 for further troopship duties, and rechristened the Empire Bure.

She was then laid up before being sold in 1950 to Charlton Steamship Co and was renamed Charlton Star. In 1958, she was sold to a Greek company and renamed Maristrella, serving until she was scrapped in 1960.
