My Grandfathers name is Samuel Bowker, who was born in Manchester Lancashire.
In the 1891 census he was 50yrs of age his wife is Harriet Newey.My Grandfather died in 1924. My Grandmother die in 1921,she had 6 children, from1869-to 1880. Their birth certificates had no fathers reported. They were all named Newey. They all became Bowkers after 1880. altogether they had 14 children Samuel was a steam engine foreman Fitter. they lived in Middlesbrough, before moving to Ebbw Vale in South Wales in1893. I have failed to discover a Birth certificate or a Marriage certificate. As you can see I require a whole lot of Help

If there was no father listed then are you sure Samuel was their father

What about baptism records have you looked for them

I have assumed that my grandfather Samuel Bowker is the father of the 6 Newey children,because in their day the first born son was usually named after the father
The son Samuel was born in 1871..There are Samuel Bowkers born between 1830 and1850. How can I guarantee any one of them being my grandfather.
